ISLAMABAD (City News) – Supreme Court on Wednesday directed the Sindh Inspector General AD Khawaja to give briefing on Rao Anwar’s CCTV footages in Islamabad and Karachi.
A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar heard the suo moto notice case over Naqeebullah Mehsud’s murder.
The CJP remarked that another letter of Anwar has been received but it is unknown whether it is real or fake. He told that the letter has been placed in the case file.
He maintained the Rao Anwar has asked for opening his account. Only a report is coming but no progress is being made in the case, CJP added.
Deputy Attorney General Sohail Mehmood told court that as per security departments all the suspects have switched off their mobile number.
“ISI says that it is providing technical assistance to Sindh police. According to MI, they have limited technical sources but still they are cooperating with the police.
On court inquiry’s, Sindh IG confirmed that ISI and MI are working closely with the police.
“The challan of the case has been filed while dismissing the first FIR. Till date, at least 12 suspects have been arrested while efforts are underway to detain rest of them,” he explained.
Justice Umer Ata Bandial remarked that it is obvious that someone is providing shelter to the suspects. “Are the militants giving the suspects a safe haven,” he asked.
“Questions raised over state authority is a significant matter. Is Rao Anwar not in political asylum?” inquired the CJP.
“Rao Anwar is not in Sindh. His last location was Bhera. As a responsible officer, I cannot say that he is under political protection,” replied the Sindh IG.
“CCTV might provide some assistance. We want to see them. An in-camera briefing over them will be held in Karachi registry,” directed the CJP.
The court while concluding the arguments also summoned DG airport security on March 16.
