Measures being made to assist people in rain-hit areas: NDMA chief
PESHAWAR : Chairman of National Disasters Management Authority (NDMA) Lieutenant General Muhammad Afzal on Wednesday has said that measures are being made to help the people in monsoon rain-hit areas.
Addressing a press conference during the meeting with KP Chief Minister and Chief Secretary, NDMA chief said that the people residing in the riverside areas are facing immense difficulties due to alarming situation of floods.
All the nullahs in Karachi are full with plastic bags, he told.
On the other hand, heavy monsoon downpour in Karachi has paralyzed daily life as many roads and low lying areas are waterlogged.
The rainwater has entered the Karachi Development Authority (KDA) grid station at Gulzar-e-Hijri Scheme 33, forcing the K-Electric to suspend power supply to some feeders.
The spokesperson said that we are working closely with all the authorities to control this situation.
All possible resources including trenches, water pumps and sand bags around the grid have been deployed to block the water.
